Who is DIY Mum? Well that would be me, Kayleigh Sherbourne. I’m a mum to two boys and I live in the UK. I started my DIY Mum Instagram account back in January 2021. The UK was in the middle of another lockdown, and the weather wasn’t so kind this time. Whilst homeschooling my two boys, I decided that for me to have a little escapism and keep myself sane (teaching was not for me!). I needed a hobby. I’ve always been creative and practical and loved DIY (and needed a new dining room table) so this ended up being an easy decision.
So that’s where it started and exactly when DIY Mum was born. And once I had the DIY bug there was no stopping me. I’ve learnt everything on the job, as they say, and have made plenty of mistakes along the way. But a broken thumb, a drill through my nail, and endless splinters haven’t stopped me. If someone would have told me back in 2021 that one day this would be my full-time job I would have laughed it off but here I am, three years down the line, making a living from being DIY Mum. I’m not laughing now but I am having a lot of fun helping my community make the most of their houses and the furniture they’ve already got.
